Dr. Ikwueme is a Partner in ASAMAH KADIRI LEGAL Law Firm. He is also a founding Partner at Sterling & Brown Law Group, a law firm registered in the United States of America, which is the North American affiliate of ASAMAH KADIRI LEGAL. Dr. Ikwueme’s unique position of being licensed in three jurisdictions, including Nigeria, United States and Canada, exceptionally equips him to advise on all aspects of cross-border representation, including multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance, international dispute resolutions, corporate immigration law, mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, as well as international contracts.
Dr. Ikwueme’s foray into legal practice in the United States includes a legal internship at Shutts & Bowen LLP, one of Miami’s oldest law firms. He also worked for The Downs Law Group, also in Miami, Florida famed for high profile class action lawsuits, including PFAS (forever chemicals) cases and the Gulf Coast BP Oil Spill lawsuit leading to the historic $20.8 billion civil settlement.
Dr. Ikwueme started his legal career in Nigeria with the law firm of Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore Legal Practitioners, Lagos, before joining the then newly formed Templars Barristers & Solicitors, also in Lagos, as a pioneer senior associate counsel. As head of litigation, Dr. Ikwueme was involved in many commercial litigations and arbitration, including the multi-million-dollar exploration and production (E&P) contract performance involving Sirpi-Alusteel Construction Ltd v. Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI). Dr. Ikwueme also advised clients on mergers and acquisitions, regulatory and corporate compliance, as well as Nigeria’s energy sector, including oil and gas and electricity (i.e. power generation, transmission, and distribution).
In 2000, Dr. Ikwueme proceeded to Canada for a graduate program in law at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by another master’s degree in information science at the University of Alberta. In 2006, Dr. Ikwueme was admitted to the Canadian Bar by the Law Society of Alberta, becoming the 3rd African immigrant to be licensed to practice law in the province of Alberta.
After a stint with Liam Connelley Law Office in Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Ikwueme joined the law firm of Evans Pearson Barristers and Solicitors, a full-service law firm, also in Edmonton, Alberta. Dr. Ikwueme’s practice areas at Evans Pearson extended to commercial litigation and estate planning.
In 2005, Dr. Ikwueme moved South of the Canadian border to take an academic position with Liberty University School of Law, Virginia, United States where he rose to a faculty position.
Dr. Ikwueme’s passion for exploring the intersection of law with other disciplines further fueled his interest in business. In 2008, Dr. Ikwueme bagged a master’s degree in business administration (MBA). He went on to obtain a second master’s degree in law and finally a doctorate degree in law both from the University of Miami, Florida in 2023 and 2026 respectively.
Dr. Ikwueme also served in many professional capacities, including President of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), Virginia chapter (2010-2011), Fellow of the prestigious Carnegie Foundation, USA (2016), and member of the American Law Schools (AALS) Minority Group Section.
